We're use the following criteria to determine whether we should use a product:

  • Open Source: does the tool has an open source, copy left intellectual property liscense?
  • Data Portability: does the tool import and export data in common, open formats, enabling us to switch into and out of the tool as easily as possible?
  • Accessibility: is using the tool as easy as possible for a wide range of people? Do you have to be an expert or coder to use the tool?
  • Price: is the tool free of cost, inexpensive, or, at the least, have a clear and non-predatory pricing structure?
